Entrance examination for Barbiere di Siviglia workshop: July 14 / 9 a.m.
To be admitted to this Course candidates must pass the required examination and pay the corresponding attendance fee.
The pieces chosen for the examination should be written on the application form.
Candidates must supply one copy of each composition for the Instructor and one for the pianist in the key in which the piece will be performed.
After the examination students will be able to make an in-depth study of additional pieces of their choice. These pieces should be listed in advance on the application form.
The Course is dedicated to the study of bel canto with the intention of consolidating the basis in terms of both technique and expression. The foreseen repertoire, while remaining within the realm of classical music, may range from Monteverdi to Menotti.
For the entrance examination, candidates must prepare by heart three pieces, chosen from their own repertoire, to be indicated beforehand on the applicatin form.
In preparation for the staging of Il barbiere di Siviglia, ovvero La precauzione inutile by Giovanni Paisiello, students may, if they so choose, include in their repertoire the part of one of the opera’s lead characters (critical edition of the score edited by Francesco Paolo Russo, published by Laber Verlag).
In the first day of the workshop the Opera must be already known by heart.
For online video-audition it is strongly recommended to record also a recitativo piece.
Interested students are encouraged to contact the Student Office (email@example.com), which will provide the necessary indications regarding the arias required for the performance. Students are further advised to send a video containing a recording of one or more arias from the opera by Paisiello, to be submitted along with their application.
The names of the two best students in the Course will be sent on to the Teatro Comunale of Bologna for possible inclusion in productions of the Opera Company there, depending upon the compatibility of the programmes scheduled for the Theatre and the characteristics and availability of the two candidates.
